Why wear contact lenses?

Contact lenses move with your eyes so you are always looking through the centre of the lens where you get the best vision.

They don’t fog up or get smudged or splattered on rainy days. They won’t slide down your nose when it’s hot.

Many people who have tried contact lenses in the past will be amazed at the improvements technology has made to the length of wear, comfort and vision over the last few years.

Which contact lens is right for you?

Most common vision conditions can be corrected with contact lenses and better materials and more choice means more comfort and better vision.

At Brosgill Opticians we stock a complete range of contact lenses, from soft contact lenses - including daily disposables and daily wear - to rigid gas permeable lenses.

Below is a description of the main types of contact lenses from which you can choose depending on your needs and lifestyle. During your contact lens appointment, our trained specialists will discuss all the options available to you.

Ortho K

Ortho K

Ortho K (Orthokeratology), also known as an ‘overnight vision correction’ lenses are supplied by EyeDream. EyeDreams provides a specially designed contact lens that reverses the power of the cornea, at the front of the eye during overnight wear. Once the full effect has taken place, the eye is effectively ‘normal’ and can see clearly during the day.

Toric

Toric Lenses

Toric lenses are for those people who have been prescribed with astigmatism. Soft contact lenses wrap to take up the shape of the front of the eye like a glove and are, therefore, unable to correct astigmatism in their basic spherical form. However, they can be made with one axis able to correct more refractive error than the other (toric design).

Multifocals

(option for over 40s)

Multifocal lenses

Multifocal lenses are for those people who have been prescribed with presbyopia or may need vision correction in more than one distance, similar to varifocals. Many options are now available to people with presbyopia, who want to wear contact lenses to provide clear vision at different distances. All are a slight compromise over our natural ability to focus at near and distance when we are young, but no more so than spectacles.

Acuvue Define

Acuvue Define Contact Lens

Acuvue Define contact lens are inspired by the beauty of the natural eye, the lens combines a dark ring around the coloured portion of your eye with a luminous-effect pattern, resulting in a brighter, more memorable you.
